Italian born Mattia has a truckload of ambition. In the short four and a half years he’s been in Australia, he has successfully carved out (for all occasions that it occurs) a specialist niche in remediation and earthworks … and he couldn’t be happier.

“Ambition gives me energy. I like to set and achieve goals and I constantly reset goals. If a goal is tough and hard to achieve, I like it – and then I like looking ahead to the next one.

The industry here in Australia is exciting, busy and full of opportunity.”

Mattia has worked on numerous projects, taking on the role of client-side Project Manager and onsite Superintendent, liaising with clients and contractors to ensure that the technical, financial, time and administrative risks for every project are identified and that necessary controls are implemented.

In the time he’s been with CARAS, Mattia has been mentored by some of the best in the remediation business and has since been superintendent onsite for some complex, geotechnical and remediation projects.

“I like challenges – every day is a different day. You think everything will run smoothly and easily, but there’s always something that comes up. That’s the problem-solving process that I love. When a problem comes up that’s easily solved, it’s very rewarding, particularly when it benefits the client, saving them time and money.”

Mattia is an excellent communicator and this, combined with his interpersonal skills, allows him to positively liaise with different types of stakeholders within the work environment. He has a strong sense of organisation and the ability to methodically analyse problems which enable him to be in full control of every project.

Mattia appreciates the calm, friendly environment at CARAS.

“If you need any help, there’s always someone ready to lend you a hand. When I started, there were four people in the office; now there are thirteen. I love being part of the mechanism, part of the bigger picture and process … and appreciate they’ve put their faith in me. CARAS are always trying to help my professional growth … courses, conferences, they’re always providing and supporting me for future growth.”

Like many Europeans, Mattia is a real foodie, relishing great restaurants, good food and fine wine.
